What opportunities and challenges lay ahead for utility-scale and aggregated solar assets
The IESO continues to move forward with its Market Renewal Program which will see the design of a capacity market and other market updates to help the province plan for and meet future energy needs. This new design will include features such as an Incremental Capacity Auction (ICA), the Single-Schedule Market (SSM), and the Day-Ahead Market (DAM). There are concerns, however, whether this new design will simply lead to a ‘dash to gas’ or whether large-scale solar and aggregated distributed generation solar assets, along with other non-emitting resources, will have a legitimate chance to compete in the new market design. Learn from sector experts to get their viewpoints of the opportunities and challenges this new market design may present for the solar industry post-2020.
